SDM-2018 consisted of keynote talks, oral presentations, invited sessions and workshops. It covered the theory and applications of sustainable design and manufacturing, and related areas, whilst providing an excellent platform for the presentation and discussion of new data and concepts, leading to knowledge exchange and the generation of new ideas.

The conference proceedings will be published by Springer as book chapters in a volume of the KES Smart Innovation Systems and Technologies series, submitted for indexing in Scopus and Thomson-Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI) and the Web of Science.

SDM-18 took place at the same time and in the same hotel as Sustainability in Energy and Buildings, SEB-18. They were both well attended and successful conferences.

Best Paper Award

The Best Research paper was awarded the paper 'Ultraviolet and Visible Photodetection using 3C-SiC/Si Hetero-epitaxial Junction', presented by the author Mr. Abu Riduan Md Foisal. Co-authors were Toan Dinh Philip Tanner, Hoang-Phuong Phan, Tuan-Khoa Nguyen, Alan Iacopi, Erik W. Streed, and Dzung Viet Dao.

Conference Proceedings

Following delays by some authors in responding to requests for corrected files, the proceedings manuscript went to Springer at the end of August. Consequently, we expect the Spinger proceedings volume to be published in November 2018. The proceedings will be available for download by delegates for about a month around this time. We will be sending out printed copies to those that have ordered them as soon as we receive them.
